Police say McHargue sexually assaulted at least one male youth student between the years of 1984 and 1988, and investigators believe there may be additional victims.
“Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by McHargue is encouraged to report the abuse to their local police or by calling the Saskatoon Police Service directly,” police said in a statement.
Sexual assault allegations are not bound by a statute of limitations, meaning they can be investigated and considered for prosecution regardless of how many years have passed since the offence occurred.
According to police, McHargue moved to Saskatoon in 1977 and began teaching piano and organ lessons that same year at a music store in the city and privately in his home on Churchill Drive.
He had been teaching piano and organ lessons until 2020.
