A 19-year-old man is facing charges after an incident that led police to issue an dangerous person alert on the Big River First Nation.
According to the RCMP, officers got a call about an armed man on the First Nation northwest of Shellbrook just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

“Investigation determined the male was driving around the community on a dirt bike and had discharged a firearm several times,” the RCMP said in a statement. “No physical injuries were reported.”
Police said officers spotted the suspect, but he took off on foot into a wooded area. As a result, the emergency alert was issued at 4:09 p.m.
After a two-hour search involving police dogs and aerial drones, officers found the man in “a heavily treed area near the community of Big River First Nation,” and the alert was cancelled at 6:21 p.m.
Police said the 19-year-old is facing charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
“He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Big River First Nation for assault, and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and four other offences in relation to a September 6 incident on Big River First Nation,” the Mounties addded.
He’s expected to appear in a Prince Albert courtroom on Monday.
