Two men on the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Most Wanted List are behind bars.
Quinton Merasty, 31, and Eldon Cone, 57, are in police custody after an extended time on the run.
Merasty had been on the lam since August 2022, when police say he was involved in an assault on a woman in Pelican Narrows on July 30 of that year.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and Merasty was charged with assault with a weapon. At the time, another warrant was issued for his arrest related to an investigation into a July 17 assault at a different home in Pelican Narrows.
Now, over three years later, officers arrested Merasty in Pelican Narrows on Oct. 8, with help from the RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team and Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST). He appeared via video call in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Oct. 9.
Meanwhile, Cone was arrested in Edmonton in August and has since been brought back to Saskatchewan for court on his outstanding charges. The 57-year-old was previously wanted on numerous sexual interference and exploitation charges, and was believed to be residing in the Saskatoon, Mistawasis First Nation, or Shellbrook areas.
Cone is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Oct. 16.
