Mounties say man pointed gun at cop before his arrest in North Battleford

Mounties say a man pointed a gun at a police officer during a raid in North Battleford on Saturday.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Saskatchewan RCMP, officers executed several search warrants in the city as part of a drug investigation.

Police said officers raided a home on 107th Street at around 5:30 a.m.

“While at the residence, officers located an adult male in a garage. The male presented a firearm, pointed it at a police officer, and then fled into the residence,” the RCMP said in a statement.

“The firearm was not discharged, and the officer was not physically injured.”

Police said the man who allegedly pointed the gun was arrested at the home, along with six other people.

The same day, the Mounties said officers raided another home on 107th Street and searched two vehicles on 108th Street.

“Collectively, during the search of the two residences and vehicles, officers located and seized approximately 176 grams of cocaine, three firearms, two replication firearms, a crossbow, body armour, bear spray, and drug trafficking paraphernalia,” the RCMP said in a statement.

As a result, a 38-year-old North Battleford man is facing a lengthy list of charges, including assaulting a police officer, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. A 24-year-old North Battleford man was also charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, along with a list of weapons charges.

Both men appeared in court on Monday, the RCMP said, while five other people were released without charges.
