When officers arrived, the vehicle was no longer in the area, but was found a short time later near Saskatchewan Drive and Winnipeg Street.
Officers said in a statement that they activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop, but “kept driving, slowly travelling up Victoria Avenue until it eventually turned south and stopped near Abbott Street.”
When officers approached the vehicle, they saw two people inside.
Police said the driver was displaying “multiple signs of impairment.”
When officers told the driver he was under arrest, the driver started to resist being arrested, spitting on one of the officers and biting one of them, noted police.
Paramedics treated the officers. The suspect was taken to hospital to be treated for “minor injuries” sustained while being taken into custody.
The 52-year-old man is charged with impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol, assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, failing to comply with a probation order and driving while impaired.
He will make his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court on Dec. 3.
