On Monday, over 100 Roughriders fans stood outside Mosaic Stadium to cheer on the Green and White as the team boarded several buses heading to the airport before jetting off to Winnipeg to play in the 112th Grey Cup on Sunday.
The sound of rattling cowbells could be heard ringing throughout the afternoon and the energetic crowd erupted into cheers each time players or staff walked through Mosaic’s doors.

“We want the cup!” “Let’s go Riders!” and “Corey Mace!” were some of the phrases that were chanted at different points in time.
Lynette Evans was one of the fans cheering the team on, and she will be following the team to Winnipeg to attend the game.
Evans said she’s been a fan of the team since she was 14 and this is her 54th year as a season ticket holder.

“I’ve been to numerous Grey Cups, how could I not go to this one which is so close?” Evans said.
“Such a pleasure to be here today to send the team off. This team is special. They play for each other, they love each other and the fans in turn, send that love back to them.”
Lana Siman was another longtime fan in attendance. Siman said the late Jim Hopson, former Rider CEO, was her Grade 6 teacher.
“Rest his soul. He’d be so proud of these guys leaving the stadium that he had a vision for and bringing it home,” Siman said.

“I was in Calgary in 2009 for that horrible 13th man loss. I was in Edmonton in 2010 for that Montreal loss again, but this Montreal matchup — we’re bringing it home, baby. This is the one.”
On their way to the bus, several players stopped by to interact with fans, and some even went to the microphone to pump the crowd up.
Head coach Corey Mace also spoke briefly before the team took off.
“This is awesome, man. I know everybody really appreciates this. We appreciate you guys every day,” Mace told the crowd.
“Today is certainly a special one, but hopefully we can pack this place a little bit more on the way back. What do you think?”
His words were met with thunderous applause.
Nathan Clearihue said he was there to provide the Riders with a bit of a “boost.”
“The fact that we were starting to win all these games, and there was just talk early on this season that we were even great cup contenders, is just mind-blowing,” Clearihue said.
“It’s been so long, it’s been a 13-year drought, and it’s going to end in one week.”
