The Huskies leaned on explosive special teams, timely defence and a steady late push to earn the program’s third Vanier Cup appearance since 2021.
Queen’s opened the scoring with a single from kicker Tyler Mullan early in the first quarter. The Huskies answered with a deep strike, as quarterback Jake Farrell found Daniel Wiebe for a 41-yard touchdown. With the convert, Saskatchewan moved ahead 7-1.
The turning point came in the second quarter. Returner Daniel Kubongo fielded a Queen’s punt, cut to the sideline and sprinted 85 yards for a touchdown, giving the Huskies a 14-1 lead. It was the longest scoring play of the game and shifted momentum firmly toward Saskatchewan.
Queen’s fought back in the third quarter behind quarterback Alex Vreeken, who threw for 388 yards on 30 completions. Vreeken connected with receiver Cedric Smith on a 17-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 14-8 after the convert. The Huskies regained control minutes later when their defence forced a safety, pushing the margin to 16-8.

Saskatchewan closed out the game by controlling the ball and winning the field-position battle. Running back Ryker Frank carried 22 times for 131 yards, helping the Huskies grind down the clock. Kicker Lukas Scott added a 44-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, then hit another from 24 yards to extend the lead to 22-11.
On defence, Saskatchewan delivered one of its most complete efforts of the season. Linebacker Seth Hundeby led the way with six tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. Jacob Goldstone made nine tackles and recovered a fumble, while Lucas Scheck added nine solo tackles. The Huskies held the Gaels to 84 rushing yards and broke up six passes.
Kubongo finished with 177 punt-return yards on seven attempts, including the second-quarter touchdown. Scott was perfect on the day, going two-for-two on field goals and two-for-two on converts while averaging more than 43 yards on nine punts.
