A 39-year-old man is facing weapons and dangerous driving-related charges after allegedly evading police in a high-speed chase Tuesday evening in Regina’s North Central neighbourhood.
Shortly before 8 p.m., police said officers observed a vehicle driving without headlights down 5th Avenue near the 1000 block of Retallack Street.

“Officers began to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed. The driver went a short distance before losing control of the vehicle and hitting a curb in the 900 block of Rae Street,” police said in a statement.
Two people exited the vehicle and fled from the scene, noted the police service.
“Following a foot chase, the driver was taken into custody and placed under arrest,” it said.
After the police arrested the two people, they found a loaded, sawed-off rifle, ammunition, three masks and four knives.
A 39-year-old man was charged with operating a conveyance dangerous to the public, resisting arrest, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm, careless storage of a firearm and possession of a weapon.
He made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court Wednesday morning.
Police made no mention of any charges to the second person arrested.
