Three people were arrested overnight with help from officers in a police plane.
According to police, the first incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, when officers in an aircraft spotted a group of people at the intersection of Bedford Road and Avenue V North, and spotted a white SUV leaving the area.
Officers on the ground tried to stop the SUV, but police said the driver took off at high speeds. Eventually, the chase was ended using a tire-deflation device, and the 35-year-old man who was driving was arrested.
Police said he’s been charged with dangerous driving, evading police and breaching court-imposed conditions.
The second incident happened at around 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police said officers spotted a Dodge Ram truck they believed to be stolen near Confederation Drive and miyo-wâhkôhtowin Road (formerly John A. Macdonald Road), and the driver allegedly drove at high speeds, swerving into oncoming lanes as the vehicle left the city on Highway 16.
Police said the vehicle stopped near Maymont, northwest of the city, where the occupants of the Dodge were picked up by another person in a Lincoln. City police and RCMP officers stopped the vehicle and arrested two men inside.
Both men were bitten and injured by a police dog during their arrests, police said, and they were assessed by a paramedic.
One of the men, a 27-year-old, is facing charges of dangerous driving, resisting arrest, evading police, prohibited operation of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property over $5,000. The other man, a 37-year-old, was charged with dangerous driving and resisting arrest.
