Drug overdose alert issued in Regina as three people die in last 24 hours

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health issued a drug overdose alert, reporting three deaths in the last 24 hours in Regina from suspected illegal drugs, possibly sold as fentanyl or gabapentin.

The three deaths were reported by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, Regina Police Service and Regina Fire & Protective Services.

“Naloxone was administered multiple times but did not prevent these deaths,” the ministry said.

Naloxone counters the effects of opioids, but not other substances like methamphetamine or benzodiazepine.

“Unknown dangerous drugs continue to circulate in the city,” it said.

In November, the ministry reported emergency responders attended more than 100 suspected overdose calls in Regina, with “reports of unconsciousness, cardiac arrest, hospital intervention, and multiple additional deaths.”

On Nov. 21, 2025, the Newo Yotina Friendship Centre in Regina conducted a sample test.

The organization identified a “substance in circulation with a concerning concentration of fentanyl and benzodiazepines. It was not confirmed whether this substance was the cause of the recent increase in overdoses in Regina,” it said.

The ministry said some “paraphernalia found at the scenes indicate substances were likely smoked.”

This alert will remain in effect until Dec. 4.
