Abbey Harty said it was a surreal feeling to return to Canadian Western Agribition wearing a Miss Rodeo Canada sash.
In October, Harty became the third woman from Saskatchewan to be named Miss Rodeo Canada during the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton. She’s also the first winner in history to have also previously won Miss Rodeo Agribition, which she accomplished last year.

“It’s been absolutely fantastic. You can feel the pride just within the walls of this building, and to bring that back home, there’s nothing like it,” Harty said.
“I can’t wait to bring this title into all different countries next year. It’s going to be so incredible, and to carry the Canadian Western Agribition sash behind my Miss Rodeo Canada sash is going to be very, very special to me.”
Harty said the honour is bigger than herself – it’s also about representing the Agribition brand.
“I knew that in April I wanted to do that as positively as possible, and I wanted to bring that Agribition sash and crown to Canada and showcase them on rodeo’s greatest stage in our country,” she said.
Harty said she poured her heart and soul into prepping for the competition. She travelled to the U.S. to practice her horsemanship, and went to as many Canadian Professional Rodeo Association events as possible.
She said those are important steps for any aspiring event winners, explaining that it’s important to be seen within the rodeo community.
“The most surprising thing is the growth and seeing how much you can grow in such a short amount of time,” she said.
Though she’s travelled far and wide, Harty said her favourite part of the year was representing the brand in Saskatchewan.
“Being down in Kennedy, Saskatchewan – it was our only pro rodeo, other than Maple Leaf Circuit Finals this year in Saskatchewan – and just being a part of that show and that rodeo was really, really special. It was kind of like a second hometown rodeo for me,” Harty said.
“I was also lucky enough to compete as a ladies barrel racer this year within the CPRA, so to be able to do both and hold my title at the same time, it was really special, and that was probably one of my favourite parts.”
Agribition continues until Saturday at Regina’s REAL District.
