RCMP officers stopped 4,446 vehicles on Saskatchewan roads during an enforcement blitz during National Safe Driving Week, which saw 106 drivers suspended or charged for driving after consuming alcohol or drugs.
According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, officers issued 1,161 citations during the week, which ran from Dec. 1 to 7, including 930 tickets for speeding or aggressive driving, 126 for distracted driving and 105 for seatbelt violations.

During the week, police also stopped 106 drivers who had allegedly consumed alcohol or drugs, leading to 24 criminal charges and 34 licence suspensions for alcohol-related impaired driving, along with two charges and 46 licence suspensions for drug-related impaired driving.
Inspector Lee Knelsen, of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s traffic division, said impaired driving is a persistent problem around the province, but said police are working hard to address the issue.
“Statistics show that impairment was a contributing factor in 30% of fatal collisions on Saskatchewan roads in 2025,” Knelsen said in a statement.
“We’re in this with you; we will continue to be on the road and test drivers. During this holiday season, when celebrations are a given, simply do not drive when you plan on drinking or using drugs.”
