Echo Valley Provincial Park is located in the Qu’Appelle Valley and offers a wide variety of activities and scenic environments to go check out.
Shelley Maclean is with Sask Parks and said that one of their most popular events is Skate the Park, which features an illuminated ice loop through the Aspen campground where participants can glide through the snowy landscape.
“Just under a kilometre of ice is what we have available, and again, we’ve got kind of a longer outer loop, and then we’ve got one that comes down the middle, so if folks aren’t feeling up to the full one kilometre, they can certainly veer off and take a shorter loop and make their way back to our warm-up teepee, which always has a really nice warm fire and a place to get those toes warmed up,” she said.
On top of that, Maclean said it’s quite the sight to see once the sun goes down.
“We’ve got about 1.5 kilometers worth of bright lights out there, and we’ve got a selfie frame,” she said.
“This year we’re looking at embracing the Olympic theme, and the team has been working really hard at creating a podium with some medals so that folks can take some selfies and really get behind Team Canada,” said Maclean.
Other activities
Skating isn’t the only event taking place at Echo Valley this winter.
The park will also have an indoor golf simulator, crokicurl, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice-fishing.
Maclean said that they will also have some other options for people looking to relax.
“We also have one of our lessees that has a wood-burning sauna, so for folks that maybe are looking for a warmer adventure in the wintertime, we have that available here at the Visitor Center,” she said.
“We also have new accommodations this winter. We’ve got one of our lessees that has glamping domes available,” said Maclean.
The glamping resort features three geodesic domes. Each dome comes equipped with things like hot showers, fresh linens, flushable toilets, a fridge, a freezer, a kitchenette, dishes and a private patio with a BBQ and a fire pit for those wanting to camp in style.
If you’re looking for a more affordable option, the park also has Camp-Easy Yurts, which feature a more traditional way of camping with amenities like power, a queen bed, a camp stove, and wash bins.
