A new winter event is coming to Swift Current next year, with organizers planning to combine vintage snowmobile racing and retro-themed fun at the Speedy Creek Retro Rally.
Rebecca Anderson, general manager at Swift Current Ag n’ Ex, said the idea came together unexpectedly while planning future events.

“We were sitting in my office talking about events for 2026 and where we could add something,” Anderson said.
“As we were having that meeting, I received a text message from Dustin Vipond with the Snow Punchers, and he said he had this idea. From there, we met, and it just kind of snowballed.”
The event is being organized in partnership with the Snow Punchers snowmobile club from Wymark and will feature vintage snowmobile racing inside the Ag n’ Ex grandstand area. It will take place on Jan. 31, 2026.
“It’s not just going to be an oval,” said Anderson. “It will be more of a cross-country style track, and spectators will be able to watch from the grandstands.”
Anderson said vintage snowmobile racing has a strong following, but events with spectator seating are uncommon.
Participants will be required to bring their own sleds, with registration details and rules to be posted online.
The rally will also lean heavily into its retro theme, with additional activities planned throughout the day.
“There’s going to be a vintage or retro snowsuit fashion show with some prizes, so if you’ve got snowsuits or ski pants from the 80s, bring them out,” encouraged Anderson.
To keep spectators warm, organizers are planning a range of food and drink options.
“We’re going to have hot chocolate, and the grandstands will be licensed for the event,” Anderson said. “We’ll have coffee, hot chocolate with Baileys, and even something called Hot Dr. Pepper. We tested it at our Christmas party, and we’re excited to share it.”
A fire pit area and winter demonstrations are also planned, followed by an evening dine and dance event with supper, awards and a cabaret band.
“It’s a chance to have fun in January when it’s kind of the middle of the winter blues,” Anderson said.
Winners of the races will receive trophies, something Anderson said is especially important to vintage racers.
“We’re in the process of ordering some really fancy snowmobile trophies,” she said. “That’s the big thing that vintage snowmobile racers are after, so we aim to please.”
Anderson said organizers are looking forward to offering something new for the community.
“We’re just excited to offer something new and something that celebrates winter,” Anderson said. “We hope everyone will come out. It’s going to be a fun family event.”
