A 37-year-old Saskatchewan man is facing a murder charge in relation to the death of an infant last month.
According to the RCMP, officers got a report about “an infant in medical distress at a residence in Melfort” on Christmas Eve. When officers arrived, they found paramedics attending to the unresponsive baby. The child was taken to hospital but died on Dec. 28.

Police said the infant’s injuries were suspicious, and officers arrested the man in Melfort on Saturday. He’s now facing a charge of second-degree murder, and the Mounties said he made his first appearance in court on Monday morning.
The RCMP said it is not releasing specific information about the man or the infant as a pre-emptive measure.
“We are not releasing the name of the infant or accused in the event a publication ban is ordered,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement.
“The victim and the accused are known to each other. We are not providing additional details about the relationship.”
