An American kicker is returning to the Riders’ roster.
On Friday, the team announced that Michael Hughes, who still holds the record for field goal percentage at Appalachian State (83.3), has signed on with the Green and White once again.

Hughes initially signed with the CFL club back in October, suiting up for just one game and kicking two field goals without a miss, including a 43-yard field goal.
During his time at Appalachian State from 2021 to 2024, Hughes made 35 of his 42 field goal attempts and was 120 for 120 on converts. He also averaged 60.7 yards per kickoff.
“The Charleston, West Virginia native made 18 field goals in a row during a stretch that spanned the 2023 and 2024 seasons,” the Roughriders said in a statement.
“In 2023, he went 19-for-22 on field goals — with the longest kick being a 54-yard game winner — and hit all 54 converts en route to being honoured by the College Football Network as a Second-Team All-American and the FBS Special Teamer of the Year.”
