Team Saskatchewan found a way to steal a victory at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Monday morning.
Jolene Campbell and her rink avoided a second loss at the Canadian women’s curling championship after Northwest Territories skip Nicky Kaufman was heavy on her final draw in the 10th, allowing Saskatchewan to steal two and a 6-5 victory.
The win improves Campbell and her Regina-based rink to 2-1 at the Scotties after back-to-back wins.
In the game against Northwest Territories, points were hard to come by for a lot of it. After back-to-back blank ends to start the game, Kaufman’s rink got on the board first by scoring a single point in the third.
The teams then traded singles back and forth for the next three ends to lock things at two apiece after six. In the seventh end, Northwest Territories scored two and then stole another point in the eighth to take the lead.

With the game on the line in the final two ends, Campbell and her rink were able to find the answers they needed. Saskatchewan scored two with hammer in the ninth and then got the two-point steal they needed in the 10th to claim the win.
The Campbell rink, which consists of Campbell at skip, Robyn Silvernagle as the third, Rachel Big Eagle at second and lead Dayna Demmans, bounced back on Sunday afternoon after dropping their opening game on Saturday night.
On Sunday, Campbell and her rink defeated B.C.’s Taylor Reese-Hansen with a 5-8 decision.
Saskatchewan got off to a fast start in that game and didn’t look back. After a blank in the first end, Campbell scored three in the second.
The B.C. rink bounced back with two of their own in the third end, but Campbell answered with two in the fourth and then stole a point in the fifth.
B.C. then scored another two in the sixth but then after a blank in the seventh, they would just trade off singles to end the game.
Campbell and her rink are looking to become the first Saskatchewan rink to win the Scotties since Amber Holland did it in 2011. Campbell was the alternate on that team.
