Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Battlefords RCMP received a report of shots fired at a residential building. Officers immediately responded and confirmed there were no injuries.
Further investigation determined the suspects fled the scene in a grey SUV. RCMP were conducting patrols when they located the vehicle on Highway 16. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; the vehicle continued to proceed down the highway. Officers followed the vehicle at a high rate of speed until it turned down a rural road, eventually coming to a sudden stop.
Officers and the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services contained the vehicle. Two suspects were observed, one who exited the vehicle and threw a firearm on the ground, then reentered the vehicle.
As a result, 32-year-old Monty Bear from Little Pine First Nation is facing 11 criminal charges, including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm while being reckless and possession of a restricted firearm or prohibited weapon with ammunition, without license and/or registration.
Blake Kasokeo, 29, from Poundmaker First Nation, is facing five charges.
Both Bear and Kasokeo appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb 10.
