People taking a bus in Regina now have more ways to pay their ride.
Starting Monday, transit users can use debit cards, credit cards or a mobile wallet to pay for their bus ride, the city said.

By making the change, the city said Regina is joining the list of Canadian cities whose transit systems allow open payment.
The city says open payment means people can pay with an Interac debit card, credit cards like Visa, Mastercard and American Express, or by adding a payment card to their mobile wallet on a phone or smart watch through Apple Pay or Google Pay.
“Transit riders can tap their preferred payment method on a Umo validator in the bus to pay for an adult transit fare,” said the city.
Umo is the digital fare payment system used in Regina for public transit.
The city said the open payment system allows for fare capping, which means that “no matter how many trips a person takes in one day, the maximum cost will be no more than the cost of three adult trips.” The fare capping system also means that no matter how many rides are taken in a single month, transit users will be charged the cost an adult monthly pass at most.
Each person who rides the bus still must pay for their own fare, the city noted.
“Regina Transit reminds transit riders who use open payments to take the payment card out of their wallet, purse or phone case to tap. Taking the card out to tap ensures payment is taken from the correct card,” said the city.
The Umo card, Umo app and cash are all still accepted as payment.
