RCMP officers are appealing to the public for any information that could help solve a homicide case in Sucker River.
According to police, officers get a report of an injured person at a home in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community shortly after midnight on Wednesday. When they arrived, police found 39-year-old Stephen McKenzie injured. Despite first-aid efforts from officers and paramedics, the RCMP said McKenzie was pronounced dead after he was taken to a hospital.

“Investigators, with assistance from the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, have determined that Stephen’s death is a homicide,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“Investigators are releasing Stephen’s name as they are asking anyone with information about his death to report it to La Ronge RCMP.”
Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers, the RCMP noted.
“As this is an active and ongoing investigation, we are currently unable to provide further details. Updates will be provided when possible. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, we will notify the public,” the Mounties added.
