A six-month search for a man wanted on multiple sexual offence charges in Nova Scotia ended Wednesday after a five-hour police response in Weyburn.
The Weyburn Police Service said officers received information in the early afternoon of March 11 that Brandon Hendershot was inside a residence in the 800 block of 5th Street North in the city’s north end.
Police had been investigating Hendershot’s whereabouts for roughly half a year before learning he may be in the city.

When officers arrived at the residence, they received information that raised public safety concerns and immediately secured the surrounding area.
The situation quickly escalated into what police described as a critical incident response.
“The area was immediately secured, and a critical incident response was initiated,” the Weyburn Police Service said in a statement.
The operation became a joint effort between the Weyburn Police Service and the Estevan Police Service, bringing together patrol officers, the Joint Tactical Support Team and police negotiators. Police then began communicating with Hendershot inside the residence.
Five hours of negotiations later, the situation ended peacefully.
“After approximately five hours of communication with Hendershot, he exited the residence and surrendered peacefully to police,” the Weyburn Police Service said. Hendershot was arrested without incident.
Police said Hendershot had outstanding arrest warrants from Nova Scotia that had been approved for extension to Saskatchewan.
He now faces several charges originating in Nova Scotia, including five counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, two counts of invitation to sexual touching and one count of failure to appear in court.
Police confirmed Hendershot remained in custody after the arrest. He is expected to be remanded in Saskatchewan before being transported back to Nova Scotia to appear in provincial court there.
“The Weyburn Police Service would like to thank the citizens of Weyburn for their patience and cooperation during this incident,” the service said.
Police also acknowledged the assistance of officers and specialized units involved in the response.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Police have not released further details on how Hendershot came to be in Weyburn or how long he may have been in the community before his arrest.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as arrangements are made to return Hendershot to Nova Scotia to face the charges.
