**ON LOCATION AT CANADA’S FARM SHOW
8:30 – Evan is joined by Cat Betker, Director of Signature Events at Canada’s Farm Show in Regina, to chat about what producers can expect at the show.
Listener Question: What’s your biggest concern with agriculture in Saskatchewan right now?
9:00 – Open phones – Evan goes to the phones to chat with listeners about what’s on their minds today. Call 1-877-332-8255.
9:30 – The Saskatchewan government is responding to the federal gun buyback program with a new option for some firearm owners in the province. It’s providing an exemption for certain owners to continue to possess those firearms on behalf of the province until they receive fair compensation. Minister Tim McLeod, Saskatchewan Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Minister of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for the Firearms Secretariat, joins us to talk more about what this means for Saskatchewan gun owners.
LQ: Do you own any of these recently prohibited firearms? Have you looked into the federal government’s buyback program or the province’s exemption program?
10:00 – Separatist talk continues in Alberta, with some groups looking to our neighbours down south for support. But a Saskatchewan historian says this isn’t the first time the Prairies have dealt with something like this. Bill Waiser, historian, volunteer for Foundations Learning (formerly Read Saskatoon) and author of Saskatchewan: A New History and A World We Have Lost: Saskatchewan Before 1905, joins the show to share what Alberta could learn from a piece of Saskatchewan history.
LQ: Do you think politicians should strongly condemn separatist movements, or allow people to express those views freely?
10:30 – Evan sits down with the Minister of Agriculture, David Marit, at Canada’s Farm Show to talk all things ag, the price of oil, gas and fertilizer driving up costs, crop insurance and what Saskatchewan farmers can anticipate for the year.
LQ: Is your farm ready for another year? What help could the government provide to improve farming and agriculture?
11:00 – Last month, we heard from a correctional officer on how common the “con code” is in Saskatchewan prisons. Cody Ptolemy, a former inmate, joins the show to share what it was like from a prisoner’s standpoint. He joins us now to share what those unwritten rules look like and how he’s turned his life around since leaving prison.
LQ: What do you think would actually make prisons safer — for inmates and for guards?
11:30 – Farmers in Saskatchewan have long dealt with wildlife damaging crops and feed, and elk have been a big part of that problem. The provincial government announced a new option to let producers manage that damage. Todd Smith, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, joins the show to explain what this means and what farmers and hunters are saying about it.
12:00 – Fresh off an incredible Paralympic podium performance, we’re excited to welcome Gilbert Dash to the show. Gilbert is a proud wheelchair curler athlete from Kipling, Sask. He joins the show to talk about his journey and what it was like to represent Canada on the global stage.
