Not only did the provincial government publish its 2026-27 budget this week, making it likely the busiest week of the spring sitting already, but it also helped to announce a major project on Monday — Bell’s 300 MW AI data centre, touted to bring in $12 billion in economic activity to the province.

Here’s a taste of what else happened this week:
- Speaker Todd Goudy, in his never-ending quest to keep up decorum in the Assembly, resorted to pleading with the MLAs on Monday. “I don’t know what to do. Please. I don’t know, that used to work when I was a kid. I’d ask people: please.”
- Finance Minister Jim Reiter joined in on the traditional pre-budget fun on Tuesday, even though he admitted he finds it “kind of silly,” presenting his budget shoes. This year, there was no splurging on new shoes; instead, it was a can of shoe protectant to go with the “protecting Saskatchewan” budget.
- “You heard it right there, we want to compare actual numbers to budget numbers, not fudge-it budget to fudge-it budget.” — NDP MLA Meara Conway as she asked a question about the budget and health care workers’ contracts during question period on Thursday. She got her wrist slapped by the Speaker for that one.
- While the NDP might be as upset about gas prices as everyone else, they aren’t letting it get in the way of their politicking. The day after the budget, the opposition party held six different media availabilities across the province, in addition to their presence at the legislative building, to talk about how they say the budget is failing.
