Mounties received a report of a shooting on the First Nation on April 8 around 1:50 p.m. and responded immediately.
“Investigation determined a male was walking on Big Island Lake Cree Nation when a truck pulled up beside him. Two males inside the truck were armed with a firearm and discharged it, injuring the male pedestrian,” police said in the release.
The truck drove away, according to police, and the man who was injured was taken to hospital by EMS. His injuries were non-life-threatening.
A search by Pierceland RCMP in the area found a truck matching the vehicle’s description outside a home on the First Nation. Meadow Lake RCMP’s crime reduction team, traffic services and police dog services were called in for assistance.
Later, seven adults exited the residence and were arrested.
The 27-year-old is also facing a charge of failing to comply with a release order. The other people in the home were released without charges.
Both men appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Thurs, April 9.
Pierceland RCMP said the investigation is continuing with help from the Battlefords RCMP’s forensic identification team.
