“All road users are encouraged to pay extra attention to their surroundings when walking or driving,” police said.
A motorcyclist was seriously injured on Wed, April 14, police shared, when the driver lost control of their bike and rode through a fence in the area of Castle Road and Davidson Crescent. Paramedics transported the victim to hospital.
“Safe roadways are everyone’s responsibility,” police noted in the release.
Drivers are encouraged by Regina police to be aware of their surroundings, check mirrors and perform a shoulder check bfore changing lanes, slow down and obey speed limits and watch for children in school zones and near parks.
Motorcyclists are advised to always wear proper safety gear – including brightly coloured and reflective gear – and to make their presence known to traffic before making lane changes or performing other manoeuvers on the road.
Anyone operating a vehicle is reminded to put down their cellphone.
“Distracted Driving Tickets for first-time offenders are $580 and four demerit points on your license,” Regina police stated.
Pedestrians are encouraged to keep to sidewalks and pathways. If necessary to walk on the road, police advise using the shoulder of the left lane, facing oncoming traffic. When travelling by foot, police are reminding pedestrians to look left, right and left again before crossing the street, as well as always attempting to cross at an intersection or crosswalk.
Those on foot are also advised to remain mindful of turning vehicles, attempting to make eye contact with a driver before walking into the road.
