‘Guardians of the North’ TV series featuring Sask. firefighters returns for fourth season

A TV docuseries featuring firefighters in Saskatchewan’s northern and Indigenous communities is set to return for a new season.

According to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, the fourth season of ‘Guardians of the North’ will air on Tuesday at 10 p.m. on Citytv Saskatchewan. The six-episode series will focus on the 2025 wildfire season, which burned more than 2.9 million hectares of land in Saskatchewan and destroyed many homes and cabins across the province.

The agency said the new season will be centred on firefighters in the La Ronge area, where communities were evacuated in the face of a fast-moving fire last June.

“This docuseries accentuates the dedication of first responders who provided firefighting, search and rescue and emergency response services during the unprecedented 2025 wildfire season,” Michael Weger, Saskatchewan’s community safety minister, said in a statement.

“Communities, agencies and first responders worked tirelessly in protecting the people of Saskatchewan, and this series provides us a deeper understanding of the work involved.”

The public safety agency noted that it receives no financial benefits from the series, and noted that some of the episodes may be very emotional for viewers in Saskatchewan. The agency said it worked closely with Wavelength Entertainment, the company behind the series, to ensure the stories are told in a respectful manner.

“Season Four captures the scale and intensity of the unprecedented 2025 wildfire season, but more importantly, it shows the discipline, decision-making and resilience of the people on the front lines protecting northern communities,” said Chris Trillo, a principal partner at Wavenlength and the producer of the series.

“We witnessed the best crews, supervisors, coordinators, pilots, and community responders working under extreme pressure to protect lives and communities. Their grit, heart, and relentless dedication to protecting lives and resources is nothing short of heroic.”
