“Street sweeping cleans up leaves and removes sand and debris from roads that accumulated over the winter so it doesn’t end up in our sewer system,” the city said in its release.
Crews will clean more than 1,000 kilometres of residential roads over the next six weeks, depending on weather. Crews will work Monday through Friday between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Bright orange signs will be put up at main neighbourhood entrances to let people know when sweeping is happening in an area.
The city asked that residents move vehicles off the street when crews are working in that neighbourhood, to ensure the entire road is cleaned.
“Neighbours are encouraged to share driveways on sweep days if possible,” the city said..
Residents can track street sweeping progress and find out when their neighbourhood will be affected using the Sweep&Plow app or online.
“Street sweeping can create dust that makes it harder to see. Residents should close their windows and use sidewalks away from the work when they can,” the city advised. “If you see sweeping equipment, slow down, leave plenty of space, and stay safe.”
