A 41-year-old man is facing a number of charges after allegedly pointing a weapon at two children and then firing it at the ground.
The two children were not hurt and ran away, according to a release from RCMP.
The incident happened on May 24, around 8:50 p.m., when Southey RCMP received a report that a gun had been shot in the town.

“Investigation determined a male exited a residence on Byron Street and pointed a firearm at two children. He then discharged the firearm at the ground,” RCMP reported.
“Officers immediately responded and arrested a male at the residence.”
A search warrant was obtained for the home by RCMP officers, who found and seized a semi-automatic handgun, sawed off firearm, ammunition, some cocaine and crack and drug paraphernalia.
The investigation, which is still ongoing, has resulted in various charges against the 41-year-old, including two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, two counts of discharging a firearm while being reckless and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, among others.
Though the incident happened on May 24, RCMP did not share information about this incident publicly until May 27, 2026.
The man remains in custody until his appearance in Regina Provincial Court on May 29.
