The Regina Red Sox will be back in action at Currie Field for their home opener on Saturday, as the defending Western Canadian Baseball League champs take on the Medicine Hat Mavericks.
The team is under new ownership in 2026, with Brandt Sports and Entertainment taking the reins. The team promised an improved experience for fans in the Queen City this season.

Currie Field now boasts a digital outfield sign to show replays, in-game prompts and more, while vendors will also be offering new food and beverage options for fans – including the addition of a “Cocktail Caravan” by Queen City Distillers and an El Tropezon food truck.
The facility’s outfield wall has also been improved, and new seating, rails and overhangs have been added to fan decks, along with landscaping and maintenance improvements to the ball park.

“Winning the WCBL championship in 2025 was an incredible moment for our players, coaches, volunteers, and fans,” Gary Broetzel, the team’s general manager, said in a statement.
“As we return to Currie Field to defend that title, we’re proud to do so in a space that continues to reflect the pride this community has always taken in Red Sox baseball.”
The team said the home opener will serve as the marquee kickoff event to the Red Sox’ season, and home games this year will feature a new focus on in-game entertainment and themed programming to make the games more unique and engaging.
“This season is about continuing to do right by the team, the fans, and the field,” Gord Pritchard, the team’s CEO, said in a statement.
“We’re focused on creating a consistent, enjoyable game day experience while supporting player development and ensuring Currie Field continues to function well for everyone who uses it.”
