Regina taxpayers will be putting forward a 50 per cent larger commitment to host the Grey Cup in 2027, compared to 2022.
At its next meeting on Wednesday, city council is being asked to confirm a $1.5 million commitment to host the CFL championship game, which includes both cash and in-kind services such as policing, transit and traffic control.

The amount is a $500,000 increase from the city’s commitment to the 2022 Grey Cup, the last time Regina hosted the championship game.
During a closed-door meeting on Aug. 30, 2025, the city’s executive committee voted to recommend the commitment after hearing from Craig Reynolds and Kent Paul of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The recommendation was required at that time in order to proceed with a formal bid.
“Details of the City’s proposed contribution and the SRFC’s bid are not discussed in a public setting at this time as it may impact the competitiveness of the bid,” the report said at that time. It’s now being brought forward at a public meeting of council for final approval.
The 2025 report also said Tourism Saskatchewan would provide $5 million towards the commitment, with $225,000 coming from the Regina Hotel Association.
If council approves, a detailed contribution agreement will have to be reached with the Roughriders. Money would be set aside from property tax revenues, and placed into the city’s events, conventions, and tradeshows reserve, to be withdrawn when needed.
Administration said the 2022 game generated $43.8 million worth of economic impact for Regina, along with an estimated $515,000 in government revenues for the city, 256 jobs and it brought nearly 27,000 visitors.
In addition, the $12 facility fee charged on each ticket is expected to generate nearly $400,000 for the city.
The city contribution is meant to support event planning aspects of the Grey Cup Festival, such as entertainment, planning, traffic, and enforcement.
The game is set to take place Nov. 7, 2027 at Mosaic Stadium.
