While the suspect had fled by the time police arrived, the RCMP said officers did find a vehicle “that had sustained fire damage” at the scene of the shooting.
Police subsequently issued a warrant for the arrest of 26-year-old Kain Cheechan, a Yellow Quill resident, in connection with the shooting. He’s facing charges of discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm and arson causing damage to a motor vehicle.
In an update issued Monday, police said Cheechan was arrested on the First Nation on Sunday and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Melfort on Monday.
