Police seized the bills, which all shared the same serial number: AHU5885903.
“Saskatchewan RCMP are advising the public to remain vigilant when handling cash transactions and to be familiar with common indicators of counterfeit bills,” RCMP noted in a release.
Those common indicators include security elements that appear to be applied as stickers or overlays on bills; a different feeling than real bills and the ability to be easily damaged or ripped; different size, shape or colour than a typical bill; holographic images or numbers that do not match the bill denomination; and the possible presence of black lines or bars on the bills.
Creighton RCMP are continuing to investigate.
“In Canada, it is a criminal offence to knowingly use and recirculate a counterfeit bill,” RCMP stated in the release.
“If you come into contact with what you believe is counterfeit currency, please report it to your local RCMP detachment by calling 310-RCMP. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can also report through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).”
Battlefords RCMP respond to rollover
A single-vehicle rollover brought Saskatchewan RCMP officers to Highway 4 early Tuesday morning, about eight kilometres south of North Battleford.
Officers received the report around 2:15 a.m. on June 16. Local fire and paramedics also responded and both occupants in the vehicle were taken to hospital by EMS. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, according to a release from RCMP.
Officers reduced Highway 4 to one lane for investigation, but both lanes are now open again, according to police.
RCMP are still investigating, alongside a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
