Two charged after RCMP investigation leads to drug bust at Lloydminster hotel

Two men from Edmonton are facing charges after an investigation by RCMP officers in Lloydminster ended with the seizure of large quantities of several different types of drugs earlier this month.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the RCMP, officers conducting a drug investigation raided a hotel room on 50th Avenue in Lloydminster on June 11, arresting two men in the process. Police said a search of the room turned up 6.182 litres of gamma hydroxybutyrate, 725 grams of methamphetamine, 243 grams of fentanyl, 233 grams of cocaine and $40,000 in cash.

The RCMP said the two Edmonton men – ages 20 and 23 – have each been charged with possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and gamma hydroxybutyrate for the purpose of trafficking, along with possession of property obtained by crime. They’re set to appear in court in Lloydminster in August.

“This seizure represents a significant disruption to the illicit drug trade in Lloydminster and area,” sergeant Aaron Gervais, of the Saskatchewan RCMP, said in a statement.

“By removing these dangerous substances, and the financial incentives behind them, we are directly investing in community prevention and safety.”
