Photo speed enforcement returning to Saskatchewan in August

Photo speed enforcement will resume in Saskatchewan next month.

According to SGI, a new vendor has been found for the enforcement program after a competitive search, and Global Traffic Group Ltd. will begin operations in the province in August.

The program was essentially paused at the end of May after the previous vendor, Redflex Traffic Systems, ended its contract with SGI early and took its equipment with it, leaving the 27 roadside camera boxes around the province sitting empty.

The Crown insurance company said photo speed enforcement will continue to work the same way under the new vendor, with no changes to locations or fine amounts, though drivers may notice a new setup for the cameras. While the cameras were previously mounted inside grey roadside boxes, SGI said the new vendor will mount its cameras on poles.

“There are no new locations as part of this transition,” SGI noted in a statement. “There may be a slight adjustment to where the poles are placed in each of the pre-approved zones.”

SGI said police will continue to enforce speed limits across the province while the cameras are being replaced.

“This transition does not affect photo speed enforcement in work zones, where cameras have continued operating without interruption,” SGI noted.
