Regina police seize loaded shotgun, prohibited rifle in weekend arrest

A Regina man is facing several firearms-related charges after being arrested on Saturday.

Regina Police Service (RPS) said in a news release on Aug.10 they were called to the 100 block of Dorothy Street in the Dieppe Place neighbourhood around 6 p.m. on Aug. 8 about an intoxicated man damaging property.

The suspect attempted to drive away as police arrived but was stopped by officers. The 48-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving.

Police said a knife fell from the man’s lap as he was being arrested and that the man repeatedly uttered death threats against another man.

RPS said a related search on Sunday of a home in the 700 block of McIntosh Street in the Rosemont/Mount Royal neighbourhood also led to officers discovering a loaded shotgun, five unloaded rifles, one prohibited assault rifle, ammunition and two BB guns, among other items.

The man has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, uttering threats and breaking and entering.

He made his first court appearance on Aug. 10.
