The Regina Police Service’s eye in the sky helped officers nab a man who allegedly tried to steal copper wire on Monday morning.
According to police, the police plane was used to help locate a suspicious vehicle in the area of Winnipeg Street at around 1 a.m.

Police said the plane tracked a suspect for about 90 minutes “as he moved through several nearby properties” before he eventually parked on Second Avenue North near Quebec Street and returned to a property on Winnipeg Street.
The police force said officers in the plane watched the man enter a compound and remove copper wire, and he was subsequently arrested without incident by police on the ground. The man was carrying a pair of wire cutters at the time of his arrest, police said.
Police said the 50-year-old man has been charged with breaking and entering with intent and possession of break-in instruments.
He’s scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Oct. 1.
