It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Shemar Bridges.
The wide receiver was back at practice for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, preparing for an Aug. 15 game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders after dealing with an injury all season.

But he was released by the Ti-Cats on Aug. 19. On Aug. 25, it was announced that the former CFL East Division Most Outstanding Rookie nominee was the newest member of the Riders.
“A couple days went by and I got a call and was just told to be ready and maybe it’s a possibility and the next thing you know, it happened,” Bridges said. “I’ve always had a lot of respect for this organization and for this team. I’m real excited to be here.”
The 28-year-old burst onto the scene with Hamilton in 2024 as he hauled in 83 catches for 933 yards and four touchdowns.
But his production slipped in 2025 as he caught just 35 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns.
He hasn’t played a game this season due to a groin injury. He said he’s healthy now.
“I’m ready to roll and I’m excited,” Bridges said.
Bridges admitted he was a little bit surprised by the decision from the Ti-Cats.
“I understand the business and I understand what’s going on. It’s understandable. I’m always thankful for my time in Hamilton and for them to give me an opportunity so I could have this opportunity. They gave me a shot to show my talents and that’s what set me up for this,” Bridges said. “I’m always thankful. It’s business and I take it for what it is.”
The Riders will take on the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday as the team looks to bounce back after back-to-back losses. Kickoff for the game is set for 5 p.m. The Green Zone pregame show begins at 3 p.m.
While he is new to the Riders, Bridges feels like he is ready to go this week.
“It took a bit of learning but I’ve been around the block — a couple of years in the NFL and then Hamilton. I think in my younger years, it would be more complicated for me but being I’m older now and I can plug in concepts and compare it to what I’ve learned in the past, it makes it easier,” Bridges said.
Bridges joining the lineup wouldn’t be the only change coming this week.
Wide receivers Sam Emilus (leg) and Johnny Johnson (head) were non-participants at Wednesday’s practice. D’Sean Mimbs and Daniel Wiebe received reps with the starters as well. Zack Fry was back with the starting lineup in place of rookie Erik Andersen.
On defence, Nelson Lokombo was moved to safety and James Burgess was with the starters at cornerback. Jaxon Ford was limited due to an ankle injury.
Linebacker Seyi Oladipo was with the starting linebackers in place of Antoine Brooks Jr.
