Regina promotes Labour Day long weekend events

Many people view the Labour Day long weekend as their last chance to get away for the summer.

But for people looking for fun closer to home over the next few days, the City of Regina is promoting several options.

“This upcoming weekend is always busy for Regina with the Labour Day Classic, and businesses, retailers and hotels are ready to welcome visitors,” said Jennifer Johnson, deputy city manager, Communications, Service Regina and Tourism.

“There is lots for residents to do as well, and we encourage everyone to explore Regina and enjoy the excitement surrounding the game.”

Six “life-sized exploration pins” have been placed throughout Regina, the city said in a statement.

“These oversized pin markers create shareable photo moments, promote local businesses and build community pride,” the city said.

The local destinations being promoted include the Saskatchewan Science Centre, where there will be football-themed exhibits; the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, which will have custom bag tags for the first 100 visitors wearing team jerseys; and Casino Regina.

The RCMP Heritage Centre will have six hidden RCMP/CFL trading cards for visitors to find, while the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame has an exhibition on 65 years of Roughrider cheerleading and an opportunity for visitors to pose with the Taylor Field championship flag.

Refreshments can be found at the Local Market, which will have a green and blue Rider vs. Bomber smoothie.
