Mounties seize four guns and cocaine after searching Ahtahkakoop homes

RCMP officers seized four firearms and drugs after searching three homes on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on Thursday.

According to the RCMP, officers executed the search warrants on the First Nation northwest of Prince Albert as part of a drug-trafficking investigation. During the searches, the RCMP said officers arrested a dozen people and seized a shotgun, two carbines, two replica pistols, a sawed-off rifle, 28 grams of cocaine and an unspecified sum of cash.

Eleven of the 12 people who were arrested were released without charges, police said, but one faces charges.

A 57-year-old Ahtahkakoop man has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, unsafe storage of firearms, possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breaching conditions of a release order and failing to surrender a firearm while prohibited.

Police said he was scheduled to appear in court in Prince Albert on Friday.

“This police investigation is ongoing and further charges may be laid,” the Mounties noted.
