Police in Regina handed out 281 tickets and 193 warnings during a traffic enforcement blitz this week.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday, police from multiple agencies descended on the Queen City for the annual Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.

“The project involved traffic stop checks at several locations throughout Regina,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.
“Enforcement efforts were concentrated on speeding, unregistered vehicles, proper use of car seats, distracted driving, seat belt violations and impaired driving.”
All told, police handed out 101 tickets for speeding, 24 for seatbelt violations, 14 for failing to stop at a light or sign, three for driving while suspended, 13 tickets related to vehicle equipment regulations, 31 for distracted driving and 69 for “other violations under the Traffic Safety Act.”
On the commercial vehicle safety side, 47 vehicles were inspected, with police and SGI inspectors noting 98 total defects. A total of 19 vehicles were taken out of service.
Police also administered 205 mandatory alcohol screening tests, but said no impaired drivers were found. Five vehicles were impounded, police said, two people were arrested on warrants or for breaching court-mandated conditions and one criminal investigation was started.
“On behalf of our partners, the Regina Police Service would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience and co-operation in keeping our community safe,” the police force said in a statement.
