There is nothing festive about a new scam in Saskatoon that encourages vendors to register exhibits at festivals that the scammers do not represent.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, fraudsters are impersonating legitimate small festivals and trade shows in an effort to defraud people of application fees.

Police made several recommendations to help people avoid falling victim to scams. Be aware that a legitimate-looking social media page, website or email may be fraudulent, police advised. Any misleading web pages should be reported to the actual event hosts.
Anyone looking to exhibit at a festival or trade show should verify that they are communicating with the actual event organizers, the police force added. When sending money transfers, independently verify the details before sending funds.
If you see a suspicious advertisement but have not been victimized, police said it should be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Anyone who has been the victim of fraud was advised to contact their local police.
