After plenty of speculation and confusion, the Saskatoon Hilltops will host a conference semifinal game next weekend after all.
The Canadian Junior Football League and the Prairie Football Conference said the Hilltops have earned the second-seed spot following the end of the regular season and a three-way tie between Saskatoon, the Edmonton Wildcats and Calgary Colts.

The announcement follows a 27-11 loss by the Hilltops to the Winnipeg Rifles in their final regular-season game on Sunday afternoon at SMF Field, which saw Saskatoon outscored 27-11 over the final three quarters to suffer their third loss in four games.
A 35-31 victory by the Wildcats on Saturday against the Edmonton Huskies opened the door for the Hilltops to be leapfrogged into second place with a loss, but a 46-30 upset win by the Colts over the previously undefeated Regina Thunder on Sunday as well threw chaos into the standings, with the trio of teams tied at 4-4 records.
After hours of deliberation by conference executives, the CJFL issued a statement late on Sunday night around the “unique nature” of having three playoff teams all finish the season with identical records.
“The teams did not play a balanced schedule against each other so the standard head-to-head records cannot be used to determine the final standings,” said the league.
Saskatoon recorded a 1-1 record against the Wildcats this season and a 1-0 record versus the Colts, while Edmonton and Calgary split their season series with one win each.
I’ve received word on how the Prairie Football Conference determined final seeding with an unbalanced schedule for Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton. New tie breaking formula is percentage = total points for ÷ total points for + total points against. @CKOMNews @CJMENews https://t.co/M7wvhmgoum

The decision by the conference has meant the Hilltops will continue their 36-year streak of hosting a PFC semifinal game, with the tradition dating back to 1990.
Saskatoon will now host the third-seeded Wildcats at SMF Field on Sunday afternoon, while Regina will host Calgary for a second consecutive weekend in the other semifinal.
The winners will advance to the PFC championship game on Oct. 18 at the home of the highest-seeded team remaining in the conference.
