Liam Pue has added another first to his WHL résumé.
The Regina Pats forward scored three goals in Sunday’s 7-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen, recording his first hat trick.
“It felt pretty good and to top it off, we got the win as well,” Pue said. “It was pretty special for me.”

Pue has four goals and three assists through the Pats’ first five games of the season.
“It’s nice to see some individual success, and I think our team is coming along, and we’re starting to get the wins going, and we will keep that rolling,” Pue said. “It’s nice that the team is starting to turn the corner and individually, it’s been great so far.”
Pue, along with fellow top WHL prospect Maddox Schultz, is looking to help the Regina Pats build on their return to the post-season last season. Regina is 2-2-0-1 to start this season.
“It’s definitely a different vibe from last year. It’s a winning vibe, and all the guys have been great. We’ve bonded really well together as a group and come really close, like a family,” Pue said. “It has been super cool to see, and I think we can do something special this year.”
Schultz and Pue gained international experience at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, winning gold with Team Canada.
“It was such a cool experience, and to come out with gold, it was so unbelievable. We had such a great group of guys, and for us to do it together, it was pretty special,” Pue said. “There’s so much (you learn). You get to know the play styles of other teams from across the world.”
“I think you learn everyone has to buy in to win a gold medal. Everyone has to accept their role, and our team did such a good job of that with the group we had,” he added.
Pue and Schultz were both limited in the number of games they could play in the WHL last year because they were 15-year-olds, splitting time with the SMAAAHL Regina Pat Canadians.
This season, the two can focus on playing for their junior club.
“It’s nice having one team to focus on and one group of guys and one coaching staff,” Pue said.
Regina will return to the Brandt Centre on Friday for its second home game of the early WHL season when it hosts the Prince Albert Raiders.
“We’re all hoping to get some fans this year to come support us, and we can do our job for them as well,” Pue said. “It’s so cool. You get to come home and play here in front of all the fans. It’s what you dream of.”
