When the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Edmonton Elks play on Saturday, both sides could be resting some key starters.
Riders quarterback Trevor Harris did not practice on Tuesday as the team returned to the field after its 16-12 win over the Montreal Alouettes to clinch a spot in the post-season. Quarterback Jack Coan took the starter reps with the team.

“Trevor has played 17 games at the same age as me and probably deserved a rest day so that’s what today was looking like,” Riders head coach Corey Mace said.
“As of today, it’s a rest day. If I sleep and think on it, it potentially could be a rest week but part of that today was seeing what the tape looks like for what Jack put out there today.
“Trevor is a tough guy to tell you’re not going to play. We will see how it goes but ultimately we have faith in all four quarterbacks to be able to do something for us to help us win.”
Harris has thrown for 5,370 yards, 32 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He has also thrown 615 passes in 2026 — tied for the most he has ever thrown in a season (2018 with the Ottawa Redblacks).
Mace did say the plan is for Harris to play, but could see the quarterback not playing the whole game.
“There’s a lot of guys who you think would be sitting (will be playing). We have to be better, so the thought process is we are going to go out there and try to be better as a football team,” Mace said.
“In fairness to Jack, he has been here three years biding his time. Depending on how the game will go, we will see, because we want to win, too.
“If Trevor is going and he is rolling, then we will keep rolling.”
Coan, who has only thrown for 153 yards and a touchdown in his CFL career, was excited to get more reps in practice.
“It’s the most I have practised in a few years so just really fun to be out there and playing a good amount and getting some reps and being able to learn from them as well,” Coan said.
“It has been awesome.”
If Coan were to have to be called upon down the stretch for the Riders, he believes getting some in-game snaps would be a positive.
“I think it’s important because I want to be out there. I think it’s super important to get some burn and have that experience,” Coan said.
“Just getting the speed of the game. You can do it in practice but a little bit faster in a game and you get hit a little bit. Just getting that speed and rhythm again would be awesome.”
Halfback DaMarcus Fields (hamstring), wide receiver KeeSean Johnson (ankle) and fullback Albert Awachie (knee) did not practice.
Jonathan Edouard was in Fields’ spot while Daniel Wiebe was with the starting receivers. Linebacker Seyi Oladipo (ankle) was back as a full participant in practice.
Running back A.J. Ouellette (neck), defensive ends Lake Korte-Moore (knee) and Aaron Patrick (knee) as well as fullback Morgen Runge (pec) were all limited.
Kickoff for the game against the Elks is set for 1 p.m. The Green Zone pregame show begins at 11 a.m.
