Drivers in Saskatoon will want to avoid part of Clarence Avenue on Thursday and Friday, as the street will be closed between Colony and Aird streets for an emergency sewer replacement.
According to the City of Saskatoon, the closure of both the northbound and southbound lanes will run from 7 a.m. on Thursday until 7 a.m. on Friday.

“Drivers are asked to use alternate routes and follow posted signage,” the city said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the city said its work on the College Drive corridor project is progressing well, with the traffic signal at the intersection of Hospital Drive and University Drive expected to be activated on Thursday evening. Work on College Drive between Hospital Drive and Cumberland Avenue is also moving along, the city said, with final work and paving happening in the westbound lanes and pedestrian walkways.
But the next phase of construction means drivers will want to avoid parts of Cumberland Avenue for the next few weeks.
“As part of the next phase of construction, Cumberland Avenue will close between College Drive and Elliott Street beginning 7:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, for approximately four to five weeks as part of the ongoing construction,” the city said.
“The closure is required to rebuild the north curb to its new location and install new traffic signals at the intersection. This work will help prepare the corridor for operations over the winter season and minimize further closures in 2027.”
During the work, the city said Cumberland will not be accessible from College Drive, except by pedestrians. A single lane will remain open on College Drive in each direction, the city said, with the south lanes between Hospital Drive and Cumberland being used until work on the north side is complete. Traffic will then switch over to the north lanes while workers complete construction on the south side of the intersection.
“Existing traffic and pedestrian signals at the intersection will be deactivated,” the city added.
“Temporary pedestrian signals will be installed just east of the intersection to maintain a crossing. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to follow posted signage and traffic and pedestrian signals and use caution in the area.”
The city said Cumberland Avenue is expected to reopen for the winter months after construction is complete.
“Crews will continue working to advance the remaining corridor improvements and open two lanes of traffic on College Drive in each direction for the winter, where planned,” the city said.
