Deana Zimmerman-Hernandez said she was inside the home with her daughter when she spotted a Canada Post vehicle outside.
“We were in the house, and we saw this postal delivery truck do a U-turn in our little cul-de-sac,” Zimmerman-Hernandez said. “It was heading right for the house.”

Zimmerman-Hernandez pointed to skid marks on the road where the vehicle jumped the curb, as well as the tire marks on her front lawn. She said the sound of the crash when the vehicle hit her home was “pretty loud.”
“It shook us all up, and the house included,” she said. “At first we didn’t know what to do. Who do we call?”
Eventually, she said her family called the police. The Saskatoon Fire Department confirmed that police are investigating the collision.

Zimmerman-Hernandez, who rents the home from her brother, said she’s still waiting to connect with an insurance company and a home inspector to learn the full extent of the damage.
During 650 CKOM’s interview with Zimmerman-Hernandez, friends and neighbours visited her home to inspect the damage and make sure the family had everything it needed.
“It needs to be covered,” said Zimmerman-Hernandez. “With the snow possibly coming in the next few days, it does need to be secured at least.”
She said a Canada Post representative also visited her after the crash.
If the house is deemed unsafe, she said, neighbours have volunteered to lend a hand.
“We found some help – family, friends, church,” she said. “We can’t ask for anything better.”
