Private Shaun Farrell will be escorted home during his final journey back to Prince Albert today.
The 23-year-old was one of four soldiers who died exactly one week ago when a fast-moving grass fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright overtook a live-fire training exercise on a nearby grenade range.

The other soldiers killed were Sgt. Morgan Wong of Edmonton, Pte. Aidan Goulding of North Vancouver, B.C., and Pte. Hayden Lykkemark of Langley, B.C.
At around 4 p.m., Pte. Farrell will return to Prince Albert and will be escorted into the city. He will be driven from Saskatoon via Highway 11 and will be joined by the escort at the Highway 2 junction.
The convoy will then head north on Highway 2 towards Prince Albert, continuing into city limits along 2nd Ave. W. before turning west, or left, onto 28th St. W. and continuing onto its final stop at Gray’s Funeral Chapel.
The escort will include members of the Prince Albert Police Service, Prince Albert Fire Department, Parkland Ambulance Care, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Saskatchewan Marshals Service and Buckland Fire and Rescue.
The Klassic Kruizers Kar Klub posted to their Facebook page on Friday that Shaun was a “big car fan” and asked that anyone with a classic car or hot rod to meet near the corner Flaman Sales & Rentals at around the time he’s projected to return to the city.
Born in Alberton, South Africa, Farrell moved with his family to Prince Albert in July 2017. He was a dedicated athlete who excelled in rugby and track, bringing a competitive spirit and determination to the challenges he faced.
Farrell graduated from Carlton Comprehensive High School and pursued the ambition he had held since childhood: serving in the armed forces.
