Saskatoon drivers will find it a bit easier to navigate the downtown core this weekend as construction crews prepare to reopen two major intersections along 25th Street.
From Saturday, the intersections at 3rd Avenue at 25th Street and 4th Avenue at 25th Street will fully reopen to all traffic, the City of Saskatoon said in a news release on Oct. 23.

The openings follow the successful restoration of traffic flow at 1st and 2nd avenues earlier this fall after drivers had to negotiate difficult conditions all summer for the City of Saskatoon’s water main lining project. the project involved water main, sewer, and road work.
While the milestones bring relief to commuters, city officials noted in the release that some localized lane restrictions may temporarily remain in place while crews finalize roadside cleanup and minor restoration work.
Final roadway resurfacing across 25th Street is scheduled to begin immediately after all underground utility infrastructure wraps up.
Despite the weekend progress, two key areas remain impacted by ongoing restrictions:
- 5th Avenue and 25th Street: This intersection is completely closed to traffic, with city officials targeting an expected reopening date of Oct. 30.
- 6th Avenue and 25th Street: The intersection remains open with significant limitations. Only one westbound lane is currently operating for vehicles travelling from Spadina Crescent toward 6th Avenue. The eastbound lane from 6th Avenue toward Spadina Crescent is completely closed, though it is also anticipated to reopen on Oct. 30.
The city has confirmed that access to area businesses, residences, and properties will be maintained throughout the construction window.
The final phase of the multi-year infrastructure initiative will require a water main replacement on 25th Street stretching between 6th Avenue and Spadina Crescent. This final phase of work is anticipated to be completed sometime in 2027.
Saskatoon Transit routes continue to face disruptions from the construction detours. Commuters are advised that active transit service alerts and real-time bus tracking information remain available via third-party mobile programs, including the Transit app and Google Maps Transit on desktop.
Saskatoon Transit announces detours, shuttle service
The City of Saskatoon also warned Saskatoon Transit riders to prepare for significant delays starting on Monday, Oct. 26.
In a separate news release on Oct. 23, the city said that work around the University of Saskatchewan campus will completely block vehicle access to Cumberland Avenue from College Drive.
While pedestrian access across both roadways will remain open, the city said construction was expected to trigger transit detours lasting around four to five weeks.
To accommodate the road closures, Saskatoon Transit is implementing the following route adjustments:
- Route 10: Detouring completely via 14th Street and Preston Avenue.
- Route 510: Temporarily replaced by a shuttle service running between Cumberland Avenue and Place Riel via Cumberland Avenue, Osler Street, Wiggins Avenue, 14th Street, and Preston Avenue. The shuttle will operate Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Commuters are advised to plan for extra travel time, the city said.
