Prospective buyers have been given more time to bid on the holdings of Monette Farms, as the court-supervised restructuring timeline has been pushed into December.
The binding bid deadline under the farm’s sale and investment solicitation process (SISP) has quietly been extended from Oct. 15 to Nov. 3, according to a notice posted on the court monitor’s website on or around Thursday. Hammond Realty — the realtor handling Monette’s large Saskatchewan land portfolio — also posted an update on its portal.

The targeted completion date for the process has also shifted from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3.
Monette Farms entered creditor protection in April, owing over $900 million to secured lenders. Sworn filings show the group operated across roughly 274,000 owned acres and 218,000 leased acres in western Canada and the United States.
Under the SISP procedures, the court-appointed monitor FTI Consulting and the senior lending syndicate hold the authority to modify procedural timelines. The extra runway could provide bidders additional time to finalize financing, sort out corporate structures and ensure compliance with provincial farmland ownership rules.
The restructuring process is expected to result in either the sale of land, the sale of part of the business, new investment or refinancing — or some combination of these four categories of transactions.
To date, the only court-approved transaction remains the $18.5 million USD sale of Monette’s Aguila Farm in Arizona.
Monette’s court-ordered stay of proceedings currently runs until Nov. 13. An extension hearing is anticipated before the Alberta Court of King’s Bench to facilitate closing procedures. Further details on land sales could become public in a report from the monitor prior to the hearing in early November.
