An earthquake rattled Esterhazy early Tuesday morning, and it isn’t the first time tremors have been felt in the community.
According to Earthquakes Canada, the quake – with a magnitude of 3.4 – hit the area northeast of Esterhazy just after 7 a.m. The federal agency described it as a “suspected mining-induced event.”

The town, home to a Mosaic potash mine, has felt earth-moving events before. In August 2025, strong shaking was reported in the community east of Regina, and that event was ultimately linked to mining.
“I was just getting out of bed, and I felt something violent,” said Jason Whitby.
“We woke to a thud. I thought maybe something hit our house. It was shaking, and some items fell over. Some pictures on the wall are crooked now.”
Similar descriptions from other Esterhazy residents were shared on social media.

This is a developing story.
